Dear Friends of Maher,

all at Maher are celebrating the 2015 Nari Shakti honor bestowed upon Sr. Lucy by Shri Pranab Mukherjee Honorable President of India at New Delhi on Tuesday, March 8 2016 for International Women’s Day. Sr. Lucy was recognized for outstanding contribution to women’s empowerment.

The Nari Shakti is one of India’s most prestigious awards. Photos of Sr. Lucy receiving the award appeared in media across the nation. Hundreds of Maher community members, villagers and volunteers welcomed Sr. Lucy back to Maher’s National Center on Wednesday evening with drums, fireworks, and a procession. The children and adults chanted, “You move on and we are with you,” “Long live Sr. Lucy (Didi),” and you are “Powered to Empower.”
