The inauguration was held on 25th February 2021, in collaboration with the village Reconstruction Organization (VRO) at Krishnapuram village, Yekollu Panchayat, Doravaari Sathram Mandal of S.P.S.R. Nellore District, Andhra Prdesh. This project aims to protect and shelter the destitute people. Provide them with food, medication, clothing etc.
The program began with a prayer by the Imam Gafoor Sayed, the pooja by Mr. Veera Chakradhar, followed by lighting of the lamp by the Operational Director, Fr. Peter Daniel SJ, Sr. Lucy Kurien – Founder Director, Maher, Ms. Hirabegum Mulla, President – Maher and Sri Padmavathi, the Thahasildar of Doravarisathram. Mr. Kalivela Mahesh, Project Officer – VRO welcomed one and all and informed them about the objectives of Maher. Fr. Peter Daniel SJ, informed the people about the dream of Prof. M.A Windey saying that the people of Nellore will be blessed by the service of Maher. He also mentioned that he was inspired by Prof. Windey and his vision towards the betterment of the villages and a better world.
The Thahasildar appreciated the work and efforts of VRO and Maher for working on improving the living facilities of the villagers with schools, medical centers, proper homes, water, electricity etc. She also welcomed the Maher team for rendering their services to destitute women.
Fr. Peter Daniel,SJ handed over the home from VRO to Maher. Sr. Lucy felicitated all the dignitaries present. The program concluded with a vote of thanks to Sr. Lucy Kurien along with the introduction of the new staff i.e. Gaus Sayyad and Asha Jadhav. She has also -conveyed her special thanks to Dr. Ulrike Biedendieck of Indienhilfe e.V. Kelkheim/Germany for introducing Maher to VRO office and each and every Maher member is grateful to Fr. Peter Daniel of VRO for his trust in Maher’s mission.
Ms. Hirabegum Mulla, President, gave an introduction about the work of Maher and a few women and Akshay Kanse a staff shared their experience. Few people from the village participated in the programme. Sr. Lucy, Founder Director thanked everyone. Special thanks to Akshay Kanse and team for taking the responsibility and shouldering the new project till we find local people to run the project.
Yet another feather in Maher’s Cap. On 10th March 2020, a new home for the destitute aged and mentally disturbed homeless men at Sanaswadi, Pune, was inaugurated by the hands of Dr. Abhinav Diliprao Deshmukh (IPS) Supdt. Of Police, Pune Rural. Our men were delighted to have a well-furnished new home.Maher remains very grateful to Mr. Chandra Prakash Dhoka, Shri Kashinath Bhujbal and other dignitaries for all their help and support.
