AASHAI - A hope for Unwed Mothers

This home was started for women and girls who are expecting a child out of wedlock and have been rejected by their families and society so they can live here in a safe environment where they are not judged for what has happened to them as it is a very embarrassing situation for women in India to have a child out of wedlock. The society looks down upon them and they are rejected by the families. They come to us from Child Welfare Committee. We make sure that proper protocols are followed in handling these cases such as communicating the case scenario with concerned police stations and CWC Officer. At Aashaithey are given support, necessary nutrition needed for an expectant mother and Medicare through regular hospital check-ups. Maher also has contacts with other organizations that facilitate the adoption process where the woman is unable to care for the child. This home is located at Vatsalyadham at Awalwadi, ManjariKhurd, 32 kilometers from Pune. A total of 503 women have been through this project and there is currently only one expectant mother involved.
